"Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you." Psalm 63:3
When I journey through the life of David in the Bible, I see a lot. It's full of lowly, humble beginnings, to power, royalty, fame, and esteem. The Lord calls David "a man after His own heart" (1 Samuel 13:4) but a man non the less. David has deep character flaws and his attempt to cover up his sin costs him great grief and dishonor. There is so much I've learned from his life, particularly what it looks like having a heart posture of repentance.
I don't think I'll ever read a more vulnerable account of someones journey in pursuit of The Lord and seeking His will as I do in the Psalms. Here is a man whose heart was laid bare - nothing was kept hidden; for David knew Yahweh, and that He was LORD of all. He is transparent about everything; his emotions, fears, anxieties, joys, sorrows, followed by words of praise. The love he experienced being with The Lord was more meaningful and valuable than life itself.
Charles Spurgeon once said this, "To dwell with God is better than life at its best; life at ease, in a palace, in health, in honor, in wealth, in pleasure; yea, a thousand lives are not equal to the eternal life which abides in Jehovah's smile."
David in Hebrew means 'beloved'.
May this necklace be a reminder for your heart. Though we struggle with sin on this earth, God has made a way for us to brought back into right relationship with Him again through His Son. A relationship full of fellowship, togetherness, intimacy, and closeness that is so real and personal. Your relationship with God is not dependent upon your performance but rests in Christ' faithfulness and finished work. You bear the mark of your Maker and in Christ, when you believe, will be brought into the family of God as Jesus is - fully loved and accepted in the Beloved.
What good news indeed.
“Oh come, let us sing to the Lord;
let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;
let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
For the Lord is a great God,
and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the depths of the earth;
the heights of the mountains are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands formed the dry land.
Oh come, let us worship and bow down;
let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!
For he is our God,
and we are the people of his pasture,
and the sheep of his hand.” Psalm 95:1-7
